At the end of 2007, ICMSF membership consisted of 18 food microbiologists and related experts from 13 countries. At the 2007 ICMSF Annual Meeting held in Singapore, Paul Teufel, a long-term Commission member retired from the ICMSF after many years of dedicated contributions and three new members were welcomed to the commission (Tom Ross, Australia; Ratih Dewanti, Indonesia; Wayne Anderson, Ireland). Sadly, Susanne Dahms who had supported the work of the Commission with her great expertise in mathematics and statistics, passed away in 2007.

In addition to global diversity, ICMSF's members' professional food safety expertise is also wide-ranging, including research, product and process development, public health, agriculture, food technology, quality control, and education. Members of ICMSF have participated in many expert Codex Alimentarius working groups and FAO/WHO meetings and consultations. Through the many contributions of its current and past members, the Commission has attained a high and valued profile with many organizations, including the named intergovernmental organizations.

The ICMSF has established three regional Subcommissions-Latin American, South-East Asian and China/North-East Asian-all of which follow the operating principles of the ICMSF while addressing microbiological problems specific to those regions.

The ICMSF is also assisted by consultants, specialists in particular areas of microbiology and critical to the success of the Commission. New members and consultants are selected for their expertise, not as national delegates or as representatives of their employers. All work is voluntary without fees or honoraria.
